Encaustic Monotypes
This specific form of printmaking created on a heated surface with pigminted bees wax is called encaustic printmaking. Each print created is a one-of-a-kind original print called a "Monotype."
The Paint
The monotypes presented here are created with my own handcrafted blend of bees wax and dry pigments, shown below, to create a bar of material that fits nicely within my hand and allows for flowing gestural movement on an evenly heated anodized aluminum surface.
I also use R&F Handmade Paint for color variation.
The Paper
I use is Rives BFK printmaking paper that pickes up the variety of saturations, movements, and textures seen in my work. Encaustic monotypes are archival and can be rolled up for shipping, and storing if not framed or mounted on cradle board.
